Alberta, Canada · 140 BPM · Sound System Culture
a sound system-rooted bass project drawing from deep 140 culture, ritualistic atmosphere, spiritual philosophy, Eastern harmonic traditions, and global instrumentation — built for deep listening and physical pressure.
Hourfriend creates deep sound for the 140 genre, late-night sessions, and the sound system culture.
Rooted in underground sound system culture. Influenced by UK dubstep, hand-built sound systems, tribal percussions, and Eastern instrumentation, the project focuses on deep sub pressure, stripped-back rhythms, and atmosphere-driven sound design.
Since starting the project in 2022, Hourfriend has developed a sound shaped by meditation, psychedelia, jazz sampling, and global musical influence — particularly traditional Indian string instruments and their complex harmonics. The music balances weight and space, designed as much for deep listening as it is for large systems and late-night rooms.
Beyond production, Hourfriend is actively involved in sound system culture and approaches each release with a strong focus on physical low-end experience and intentional pacing rather than trend-driven content. Releases include the self-released 10-track vinyl titled Aum Clash, alongside multiple EP releases and singles with labels including Frozen Plates, WiddFam, Rewind140, Bassweight Cuts & Sound In Picture.
Hourfriend has received support from artists such as Khiva and has performed across underground events, radio broadcasts, and sold-out shows including direct support for Kilbourne in Montreal through DarkRoom.
Made for hand-built rigs, late-night sessions, and people who genuinely care about bass music culture.
